Hair Today Gone Tomorrow

Currently e bean is sporting the reverse horseshoe aka old man hairstyle. She has successfully rubbed off all her long hairs around the sides and back of her head leaving the top hair long and toupee like. However, there is this one little spot at the base of her neck where she can't quite rub off to match the rest of her hair.
Now by no means is she completely bald. Where the long wispy hair used to reside is a fresh crop of baby fine hair coming in. However, the (take your pick) duck tail, rat tail or baby mullet must go. Grammy was kind enough to hold e bean while I took the scissors to her for the first time.
Yes I'm keeping it, for her of course!

Snow Plowed

Literally
Driving home from the shower, we met up with a snow plow. Or rather he met up with us. Attempting to descend an overpass, we hit a sheet of ice. I knew there was no stopping and we'd have to coast until we ran into something. I had three choices. Option A was to my left. An Expedition that had come to a stop due to the fact that it had already met up with a Land Rover. Option B was to aim for a 4Runner. Option C was to try to steer my car through the middle of option A and B in hopes of not hitting either of them. Since option C was pretty much impossible, I went for option A in hopes of only contacting one car rather than the possibility of others coming in contact with me.
I wasn't accelerating, just coasting on the ice. Steering wasn't really working at this point so I let my car come to a rest against the hitch of the Expedition. No damage to his vehicle, probably a nice dent in my front bumper. Then I saw the headlights in my rear view. Not just any headlights, these were the blaring headlights of UDOT snow plow heading straight towards us. Knowing that I didn't have the ability to stop my little car I knew this ginormous plow was having the same difficulty and it was going to plow into us. Thus it did. As the blade of the plow cut into my trunk, blowing out the rear windshield all over the girls, the force also smushed us up against the Expedition smashing in the grill and front end in a lovely accordion style.
Waiting for the impact was worse than the actual event. When the excitement was over we checked the girls, they were fine. Ma and I were both fine (all passengers in the car had seat belts on and or were strapped in car seats). Then the reality of what had happened started setting in.
Our wonderful, reliable, PAID FOR all wheel drive vehicle had just been smushed perhaps beyond repair. If you have never experienced an event such as this the feeling is truly sickening. I know we were blessed to have no injuries in this event and for that I am grateful. Of course this would occur on the weekend when our insurance and body shop of choice are both closed. So I had to let the tow man take Speed Racer away with a tear in my eye.
Citations were not issued as this was a no fault, act of nature. However the great state of Utah will be covering the damages to all cars involved. I know things could have ended up a lot worse but I can't help feeling sorry for myself. Or rather for the car I have owned longer than I have been married. So sad to think I may never drive it again.
The self-pity party has begun. Words of condolences are gladly accepted. Waaaaaah!

Sleepover

Doug had planned a trip to Idaho to help Brad with his basement so the girlies and I decided to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Aunt Jody said she would come over and make calzones for dinner in celebration of Tony's birthday. She even made Ziggy a special mini calzone of her own.

The sleepover worked out well since we had been invited to attend a baby shower the following day with Grandma and Kim. Ziggy slept in Tony's bed all by herself. Have I mentioned what a great sleeper she is? She stayed there almost a full 12 hours. Not quite sure what went on in those almost 12 hours since she woke up to this hair do.
Talk about a rats nest! After some delicate combing and a good wash in the bath we were able to tame the wild beast. If I had only known this was a precursor to our day, I would have gone back to bed myself.

Well Checks

I took both girlies in for their checks. Talk about a challenge. From the moment we stepped into the doctor's office, Ziggy wanted nothing to do with anyone. Since we have only taken her in twice for actual illness, I fear she associates the office with what she's familiar with...shots. So yeah she whines and cries, especially when we are back in the exam room. She kept saying, "hold you mama, hold you mama" over and over. I tried to reassure her that there were nice ladies helping us. When the two hour trauma was over and we were walking out of the room, Zig turned to the nurse and in a very sad tone said, "bye nice lady". Was I ever glad to be on my way home after that. At least Zig doesn't have to go back until she is 3. E bean, however, will be back in another three months.
Ziggy - 23 lbs. 12 oz. (10%) - 33 1/2" long (50%) - head 18 1/2" (25%) doc says that by now it's possible that her growing habits have been established, meaning more than likely she'll remain to grow at an average height. I have to admit that I'm slightly bummed. One more thing my little girl may not have inherited from me or her father for that matter.
E bean - 14 lbs. 4 oz. (15-18%) - 25 3/4" long (50%) - head 16 1/4" (10%) another average growing girl which is not a bad thing just a little disappointing.

p.s. don't mention it but we are going for swine flu shots on Thursday.

Last Call

Doug and Erick went fishing this morning at Strawberry Reservoir as sort of a last chance before the snow flies. He said the air temperature was a balmy 17 degrees and ice was forming along the edges. I'm thinking they are just gearing up for the ice fishing season.

Halloween Party

David and Sue hosted their annual Halloween Party today. We got together for a Mexican inspired dinner and to celebrate Ziggy and Marci's birthdays. Costumes were optional.I can't explain why but in the below shot, which is a fairly random shot, I can see my face in Zig's.
Ziggy had a great time being surprised with many wonderful gifts. She received a dogie bag (purse), a miniature baby that has her own high chair which Ziggy creatively named baby Ziggy, new pajamas, lots of awesome books including one titled Sid the Squid and a fabulous fairy book along with a wand of her own. In this pic she's using her wand to "ding" people, perhaps a little too fast.

Drive My Car

The girlies and I spent Saturday morning at Grandma and Grandpa's house so that Doug could do some work on the basement in peace. E bean is now old enough to ride in the car and was loving all the fun sounds it makes.

Ziggy decided that she too wanted to ride in the car, only due to the fact that her little sister was in it first. I remember when she had fun bouncing to the radio music. She has grown quite a bit in this past year.
For some reason Zig looks really old to me in this picture. I can almost envision what she will looks like as a teen.

Eat Your Heart Out Linda Carter

The day began less than ideal but ended up being a great day. Because the car was parked outside and it was cold out, I decided to start the car to warm it up for us. I must have hit the lock button rather than the unlock button before I closed the door. I had locked us out of the running car and the house was also locked. No problem I thought, I'll open the garage with the key pad and the door into the house will be open so I can get Doug's keys to open the car. Well the garage wasn't opening, the battery in the key pad had died. On to plan B. Take the screens off the down stairs windows as one of them was bound to be unlocked, right? wrong! Since when did we become responsible and start locking the windows. I had to track down a neighbor who was home to let me borrow a screw driver and 9 volt battery to get into my garage only to find the door to the house was locked. Seriously, we hardly ever do this except for a night and I had been out into the garage tossing garbage out earlier that morning. After digging around for our very well, deeply hidden spare key, I was able to get in the house and get Doug's keys to open the car. 45 minutes after stepping out of the house to go, we left for Grammy's work and trick or treating. Here's Ziggy trying to escape the evil doings of her mother and that darn camera she takes everywhere.

Not wanting her picture taken this morning.
Mom, will you stop?
At Grammy's work we met with Alli, Hudson and Aubrey for some trick or treating.
He's awake!
E bean makes a cute little chick thanks to Van. Happy 6 months to e bean. Well checks are in a week. We'll do an update when we get her stats.

After naps back at Grammy's house we were off to Kimmy's work for more trick or treating.

Now he's sleeping.
All the associates at Kim's work had their halloween pictures posted. Someone decided Kim needed her mouth stitched shut, perhaps a hint?
Even pirate HaRRRRRRley got in on the action.
What a day! We had a great time with everyone. Thanks Grammy and Kimmy for letting us come visit and get treats.
